There Are No Stars

The sun is setting,

It’s that dull time again

When soon there will be no stars

And to the butterfly,

Whose wings are snapped in two

Whose heart is only scars

It’s a blessing

There is no way to go

No candle light to follow

Or noose to throw the darkness out

It’s all so shallow

But when the stars are gone,

There is no lingering doubt,

Of the answer

It must have been nice

This sacrifice for the living

Maybe some weeping, some smiles

A ritual of formality

But then the dawn returns

Her fury untamed and wild

And the dead hide
